Waiting For Dogot - Spoilers

Written by: Aaron Blitzstein, Dmitry Lipkin
Directed by: Jamie Babbit

First aired on FX on June 4, 2007
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This was the last episode of this season.
In this episode the s**** really hit the fan and the whole house of cards came crashing down on the Malloys.

This Episode starts where Episode 12 left off.
Pete is still in Doug's (Wayne's) office and puts the screws on Wayne. Wayne manages to call Dahlia and shout some words in Traveller talk to make her aware of the situation. He tells Pete that he has assumed Doug's identity with Doug's consent, because Doug is hiding.

Wayne is going to leave with Pete, when Dale crashes into Wayne's car. Dale introduces himself in front of Pete, claiming to want to make up for the accident with his handy man work.

Wayne then takes Pete home, and makes a "secret" call to Doug's Mailbox, allegedly leaving a coded message. They tell Pete that they now must wait for Doug's call back.

While they are waiting, Wayne and Dahlia exchange secret messages trying to come up with a solution to the mess.

Dahlia had to get rid of Nina which broke her heart. While Wayne and Dahlia wait, Sam has to paint over his mural that he worked on for the past several months. Surprisingly the old Lady (Cherien's real mother) gives him the strength to do it.

Finally Wayne comes up with a good plan, so Cael calls the house phone. After 3 rings he hangs up and Wayne explains to Pete that this code means they are ready to meet.
Wayne is getting ready to pull his most amazing con of the entire season. He drives into the Woods with Pete, pulling a gun on Pete, pretending to wanting to kill him, asking who has sent him. Cael who is hiding in the woods makes fake bird calls to which Wayne responds, when Wayne receives a Text message on his phone (wisely placed next to Pete for him to find it). Cael has sent a message, allegedly coming from Doug, identifying Pete as a friend.
Wayne apologizes to the poor guy, explaining that he is a killer who has to pose as Doug, since Doug allegedly witnessed a cruel murder performed by a cop.
So Doug had to hide and Wayne was the bait waiting for the men who are after Doug.
Pete buys the entire story, but when one of the Wayne's guns, a water pistol, malfunctions and leaks, the entire plan is blown. Wayne knocks Pete out and drives him back to the house where he is drugged and locked away.

Meanwhile Nina discovered the RV and finds all the fake passports and ID's. She finally knows everything, but swears not to tell anyone.

Finally the Malloys pack their stuff and leave the house, taking the Grandmother with them.
However they cannot start the RV, since Dale stole the Distributer cap.

Dale comes back to the house and finds Pete. He finally learns the entire secret and decides to blackmail the Malloys. But first he has to get rid of Pete .... TO BE CONTINUED!

This was one of the best episodes ever.

I really loved the con Wayne tried to pull on Pete and I would have wished for it to work. It was one of the best that Wayne had ever come up with.

It was heartbreaking to watch Sam paint over his drawing and to see them say goodbye to Nina. I really liked that she offered them to be a friend that they could come back to in a time of need.

I wonder what they will do next. I really hate having to wait this long for the next season, since I would love to know how the story continues.

Grrr, I hate the end! Now we've got to wait almost a year to see what happens?! Anyway...
I love Nina SOOOO much, she is a great friend. I like what Cherien's mom said to Sam, about life forcing you to cover it up or something, but it's still there underneath, the mural being a metaphor or something. d:
I was devestated when Pete saw the kool-aid. They had almost made it.
By the end of the episode I was shaking.

I agree, it was a very powerful episode.

Steve: I also thought that the con they tried to pull on Pete was one of their best. I was sorry that it didn't work out, but I also felt sorry for Pete. I don't like him much, but he was already pretty messed up and this certainly doesn't help.

There was a lot of strong and touching stuff in this episode with Sam painting over his mural, Nina finding out about the RV, Dale confronting Dahlia.

There was one scene where the kids are packing their stuff and Cael is packing his school clothes (I think) and he looked so sad, almost as if he was sorry that he had to leave this life behind. That was the first time I ever saw that kind of reaction from Cael.

Then there was the scene where Wayne gets home with Pete and tells Dahlia that Pete knows everything. And you can see the shock but also relief in Dahlia's face. Relief, I think, because it is finally out in the open and she was probably hoping that they could leave all of it behind and move on.
And then to see the disappointment in Dahlia's face when she finds out that Wayne has made up yet another cover story.

I also liked when Dahlia and Wayne had one of their "covert" discussions while talking to Pete. I think those scenes are very powerful. They've done it before and it always worked really well. It seems as if they are the most honest with each other in these "conversations".

The end was also interesting. I was almost expecting that something would go wrong with the RV so that they couldn't leave, but I did not expect Dale to knock out Pete. I thought he would be using Pete to destroy the family but not get rid of him. But then again, things aren't always as they seem in this show...

For a first season, this show was very strong. It had its ups and downs, but it was very entertaining, very provoking at times and something different enough from the usual stuff on TV. I'll definitely be tuning back into Season 2.

Cool

Makes me wonder whatever happened to poor Ken. I don't think they ever showed if Dale killed him or what he did to Ken. The viewer is left somewhat in the dark about this.
I wonder if they would do the same with the Pete - Dale story.
After all it looks as if he is going to kill him, although I also don't quite understand the rationale behind this.

I agree with everything that everyone's said here. I too hate to wait nearly a year for a new season. Seasons are so short these days that it's not like it used to be, where they had more new episodes and had them run from fall till the beginning of summer, and then show reruns all summer long, only to start all over again the next fall. I hope they don't lose a lot of viewers, like what's happened to Lost.

Also, I wonder if Dale's going to get rid of Pete after he does the Maxwell's hammer on him. It's clear (I think) that he's doing this to protect his scam, since Pete would blow it wide open, with his instability and insistence on going to the police about this. But would he be so stupid to leave Pete (or traces of his murder) in the Rich house? Nope. As he said, he'd rather have a piece of the pie. If that happens, it would be a very strange alliance, especially since Dale has an abnormal incestuous attraction to his "cousin" Dahlia, unless they are not really blood related.

I wish that FX would lose those stupid "during the episode promos" that they (and other networks) are doing, though. It's distracting and completely annoying, which makes DVDs of the show more attractive, since you don't even see the FX "bug" at the bottom either.

Does anyone know what the word "Dogot" means in the episode title? I know it's a take-off on waiting for Godot...but why the lettering reversal, please?

Seems to be a common theme with the Show (just like in X Spots the Mark).
It's good from a marketing standpoint. Just imagine someone searching online. If they search for X Marks the Spot a lot of things will pop up not related to the show.
I am certain thats not why they did it, but a nice side effect.

I too like the Nina character, a lot more than I thought I would when she was first introduced. She's a complex character, and is clearly envious of the Traveller lifestyle (probably romanticizing it, much like the show itself does), and would jump onto the Malloy RV in a New York minute if they'd let her. She doesn't have anything at home to live for, except the fancy lifestyle that she adores.

Oh, I loved Nina almost from the beginning. I can't quite put my finger on it, there's just something about this character that I like and that stands out. I agree that a lot of it has to do with her complexity, but I think for me it's also the actress they chose for Nina. She's just right on and brings the character to life. For me some of the best scenes this season were the ones with Dahlia and Nina.

I think it means "Doug" because theyre waiting for Doug on the phone.

To Everyone: you know when Wayne showed the kithen knife in his sock and said "Even if the weapons have to get simple" well when Pete started screaming Doug should've said "like i said the weapons get simple" then Pete would've kept on beleving him. Oh and I also think that Dale is going to kill pete for no reason. Dale is crazy like that. Confused

I don't know, maybe for the moment, but I think Doug realized just how unstable Pete is and every time they got him to believe something, he would question his beliefs the next moment and come back causing even more trouble.
I think Pete was just too much of a risk and so was Dale, so they decided to run.
I think I would have made the same decision if I was in their shoes. Most people get caught when they get too lazy or too comfortable with themselves.

"Dogot"
"Doug Go" or "To Go" whatever meaning you choose,
this is the first time all season that Wayne has no spontaneous plan!
Conspicous in it's absense.

In Waynes story, he intended to kill Pete with that gun, and Pete knew it. That would've been stupid.
