Well, the first season is officially over in the US. How did you like it? Will you be back for the second season?

I thought the show was very interesting and entertaining, it is worth the hour of TV that it takes up. Smile

I LOVED the first season. I felt some of the middle episodes strained credibility a little too much, but overall the show was terrific. HOW DISAPPOINTING, THOUGH, THAT FX DID NOT SEE FIT TO ANNOUNCE THE RENEWAL AT THE END OF THE LAST SHOW! I'm sure that most people who regularly watch the show DO NOT regularly go to this website. It is imperative that announcements be made on TV, when the episodes are shown, so that everyone can look forward to the next season. IT WAS AN ENORMOUS PR GAFF NOT TO MAKE THE ANNOUNCEMENT AT THE END OF THE SEASON'S LAST SHOW! My husband and I think Eddie is fantastic and Minnie Driver is wonderful. We would like to see the show continue for years to come, but you must let the fans get their information ON THE TELEVISION. Can't wait for the 2nd season.

I couldn't agree more with you, lulu. I was very surprised that they did not make any announcement at the end of the finale, and for that matter during the commercial breaks. I actually thought they would take pride in having a show that was successful during its first season.

Come to think of it, there are no announcements on their website either. Go figure. I am sure they will start running ads again beginning in fall, just like they did when the show started. The problem is though in order to catch those, you would have to be already watching FX. I think they missed a great opportunity to let people know that they will be back...

And to stay on topic, I too thought that the first season was great. Sure, it had its ups and downs, but I think for a new show it was very strong and did well. Can't wait to see what they have in store for us in the second season!!

Dahling--Not being in the know as far as TV promotions are involved, I just thought that, if possible, you and Eddie could do the rounds of the talk shows again to get the word out that the series has been renewed for another season.

I think that a network might be wise not to promo a new season too early on. You never know what's going to happen during a hiatus that could change everything.

For instance, the programming director and/or others in charge might leave (willingly or otherwise), or the network could be sold to new and less tolerant owners, and the new honcho(s) might drop or sell off the show to another network just because they got up on the wrong side of the bed, or they hate the actors or the premise of the show, or have some hangup that precludes them from airing this kind of show, invalidating an early promo. I know this is an extreme and probably quite unlikely example, but such is the transient reality of television.

Fans know, through this and other venues, that the series has been renewed. And I'm sure that soon enough, FX will start airing commercials for the next season, both on FX and other networks.

Hi lulu, I really wouldn't mind going on talk shows with Eddie to promote this show Wink but like you, I am just a fan of the show. I am (unfortunately) in no way involved with the show. But I agree with your idea, it would be good if Eddie and Minnie and some of the others kept promoting the show this way. As far as I can tell, Eddie is keeping busy with talk show appearances and Minnie will do a live Q&A session with fans on June 11th (next Monday). More info here.

Yeah, I guess you're right, a lot can happen until next year. Which is really what irks me the most - that it takes so long until the next season will air. One season already only consists of 13 episodes (and I am sure they have their reasons for it) and to have to wait for over half a year until the next episodes just isn't good. I've heard that a lot of TV shows lost viewers this way. Again, I am sure there are valid reasons behind this and maybe they just can't do it differently, I'm just afraid that a lot of viewers simply will not wait that long...

Y'know, someone he called Eddie Izzard was on Jon Stewart's show tonight (he even LOOKED like Eddie). But as great as he was, he must have been someone else. He didn't mention that "The Riches" had been renewed!

I also saw Eddie Izzard on the Jon Stewart Show. It was the real Eddie Izzard alright.
Don't think he was given much time to have fun.

Early in the interview he showed a clip from the new movie, 'Ocean's 13'
His dialog (to his own suprise) is pivitol to the storyline.
He said that backstage he was teaching 'Brad and George' (Brad Pitt and George Clooney) some European kid's knife-throwing game.
Jon: "Wait, wait, wait! You said Brad and George?"
Eddie: "yeah, Brad Pitt and George Clooney, those two have no ego, but I do."
I guess after hosting two world wars, Europe's children have picked up lots of fun toys and games...
Eddie: "You Americans haven't seen anything similar since, the Civil War. I checked."
Then conversation turned to the American Revolution.
Eddie said he would have been fighting on our side as Alexander Hamilton, and later been shot in a pistol duel with Aaron Burr.
General Cornwallis wasn't given any credit, and overall Eddie gave the impression that our revolution was hardly noticed by England.

He had a very brief mention of the Riches on ending the interview.
Eddie: "...and that's why [looking directly into the camera] you should download The Riches Show from iTunes."
Jon complemented him on the excelent plug segue, and it was time for commercial.

You know what I think? This guy Izzard is a very good, talented actor, but when I see him out-speak Jon Stewart in interview?
If he really lets loose it could get embarrassing. Has anyone here ever seen him get angry? Does he?

Excellent show. Characters like Dale, Hugh, Ken, etc, they're a bit flat and cartoon-comical (Stashwick is a Second City alumnus, better can be done with him). Some shows like episode 8 were a bit sitcom-ish -- little development, lots of new characters (introduce them while you can I guess). Otherwise, the show is brilliant in every other way I can think. Every character in the show is acting, playing the part just like the Malloys are. I'm already waiting for the second season, and the many after that.

I've been a fan of Izzard's work for a long time. This show is letting him act as well as do a sort of stand-up comedy (a con-artist improvises). I've been a fan of Driver's work for a few years. I'm becoming a fan of new actors because of the show.

---
I've never seen Izzard angry, only annoyed, though he has gotten into fights and is a blackbelt in fukendo and sashimi. His plug for The Riches was good; it stood out more than the usual "We've got to go, here's the book. It's on bookshelves now, just like the others, so buy this one".

Sorry, I'll reference Izzard's work a lot.

In a number of his shows, he talks about a fight he had, and said in one that he really should learn a martial art. In his 2003 Sexie show, he said that he had finally learned a martial art; fukendo, where you basically swear at the other person. He also learned Sashimi, which is like sushi, but it's sashimi, and you just fling raw fish at them: salmon, salmon, tuna, the white one that's horrible. And when they're confused, "hey, this is fish!", wassabi! A big ball of wassabi down the throat. Not quite a quote, but I won't check since I've obviously seen it too many times already.

My username is from the 1997 Dress to Kill. I could have used something more vague, from something that didn't win an emmy, but I didn't want to be: Mrs. Badcrumble, Mr. Dog, Noah's baboon, neither the holy nor bovine James Mason, etc.

As I'd said, I've been a fan of Izzard's comedy for years; any show he's in comes with a built-in fan base. He's done well in his dramatic roles, but I've never thought he was a particularly great actor. However, I can't imagine anyone doing this roll better. He's doing incredibly well with the dramatic stuff, and the roll even uses his style of comedy (surreal explanations, dreaming things up, pseudo-improvised). I could guess which lines he wrote himself. Having him do an accent, that was a surprise, but he's doing it well enough to not be noticable, almost as well as Driver.

I'm glad they've got Izzard in a serial role, doing the work he does excellently, with a great cast. Sexie was a long time ago, and I'm not much for TV, but I'm glad to have something to be a fan of.

Thanks for the lesson Z. I guess I will order some of Izzards shows on Netflix and get up to speed a bit. I have seen one of his shows on TV (well just the end of it) and it was pretty funny.

I guess I wasn't even that far off with the Sushi, only the stinky feet was a bit off track, but come to think of it, I think it might be a more powerful martial art then dirty words.
