I am a big fan of Minnie Driver's, so needless to say, I am very excited to see her in a TV show. I really enjoyed her performance this week and can't wait to see more. Seems to me that she and Eddie play very well of each other.

So what do you guys think about the Southern accent she's using? Some say it's spot on, others complain about it.
For me, at first, it was very strange. I've always loved her British accent. But I'm getting used to it now. Although I have no idea whether it could pass as genuine or not...

It's said that in terms of linguistics, the American Southern accent and the British accent are remarkably close. That being said, I find her accent convincing in that I don't notice it - which I believe to be the defining mark of a well-executed accent.

I have never heard that before. I have always wondered how someone British could all of a sudden speak with a southern accent.
Convincing? Hell yes. Hadn't I known her before, I wouldn't have known from her accent.

Saw Minnie in Hard Rain. Weird movie. Lots of swimming and all the characters get a chance to nearly drown.
Her accent could have been 'more southern' for that movie. But for The Riches, she's perfect.
When watching this series, I have to keep changing volume between "...HAS THE MOVIES" chants.
So, when I finally got to hear her sing at Earl's funeral, I was devistated. She is that good.
As 17-year-old Brent was told, I'm "peeking in on all her pain."
Minnie has a beautiful, graceful voice.
Okay I'm a fan, and I can only hope that she will get a chance to sing from joy, instead of from sorrow.
There's bluegrass music surrounding this storyline. I see lutes, guitars, and fiddles all over.
Here in Arizona, we have yearly bluegrass festivals. RVs come from all over the country and folks get together, just like Travellers.
The one in Wickenburg AZ is a big one. Now there's a place in the middle of nowhere.
I play guitar as a hobby so, the night time campfires are delightful to visit, sit-in, and 'jam.'
I wonder if Minnie plays an instrument?

Well, as far as I know she does play the guitar. Don't know about any other instruments, though.
Then there's at least one album: "Everything I've got in my Pocket" (from 2004 I believe). She also has a new one coming out this year: "Sea Stories", to be released on July 10th. And she has a North America tour coming up this Summer.
If you're interested in her music, check out her band webpage.

Just found her myspace page and listened to some of her songs (apparently from her new album "Sea Stories"). I was really impressed, her voice is awesome.
Check it out!

Wow, Minnie is one talented lady. How did I miss that? I've only seen her once, no twice, before, in Will & Grace and in Good Will Hunting. Both times, I really enjoyed what I saw. I think she was even nominated for an Academy Award for Good Will Hunting. She would have deserved it.
And yet, I think this is her best performance so far. I can totally see and believe that she loves playing this character.
I watched some of the BTS videos on the frontpage and I thought it was too cute when Minnie said that she loooves Dahlia. What was actually quite funny was hearing her speak with her British accent. By now I've gotten so used to the southern drawl that I was surprised at first.
And I just went to her myspace page and listened to the songs. She really does have a beautiful voice, wow. And it's my kind of music to begin with. I think I will buy the older album and then the new one when it comes out. Very cool!

Glad you enjoyed it as much as I did, Emilie.
I just found another article about the new album; it has some more information about the songs.

I've been a Minnie Driver fan for a while now and I couldn't agree more with you, Emilie. So far, she has blown me away in this show.
Seems like the critics agree with you, too. I just read the article at NowToronto.Com and they said the following:
| Quote: | | Nothing on Driver's resumé not her boy-toy turns in Good Will Hunting or Grosse Point Blank or her six-episode stint on Will & Grace suggests the comedic and dramatic reach and depth she achieves here in just a few well-sketched scenes as a wife, mother, thief and drug addict strung out by chance, circumstance and a few wrong choices. |

The music is not bad at all. I don't share all of your excitement, but I could listen to something like that in order to relax a little bit.
Why do all these Myspace pages have to be so ugly?
