Believe the Lie - Spoilers
Story by: Dmitry Lipkin & Dawn Prestwich & Nicole Yorkin
Teleplay by: Nicole Yorkin & Dawn Prestwich
Directed by: Peter O'Fallon
First aired on FX on March 19, 2007
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In today's episode, Wayne had a job interview, the family had a setback (lost their money stash and got into trouble with the homeowners association lady) ....
Today's episode starts with a big scare for the family. A tall cop comes to their (well the Riches') house and rings the bell. The family falls back into their frantic behavior, but Wayne reminds them that they are law abiding citizen now and opens the door. The cop treats them nicely and reminds them to install an alarm system (big scare for nothing).
Finally Cael is able to hack into the Riches' computer and so the family finds out all the details about their assumed identities (friends, jobs, hobbies ...). Fortunately the Riches don't have a lot of friends.
Wayne (who poses as Doug Rich) has a job interview the next day with a big law firm. He is able to con himself into getting a job with this big established law firm.
Meanwhile, the head of the homeowners association (some blondie) gets the family RV towed while Dahlia has to watch helplessly. She gets into a short argument with that Lady.
In typical Malloy fashion, the RV is stolen back from the impound lot in a daring move, involving Di Di as the distraction to the owner of the lot. In a sense defying move, Dahlia parks the RV back in the original spot.
It turns out, Dahlia had stolen the travellers stash of money back from Wayne and buried it near the RV, but had forgotten where.
In a somewhat desperate, but extremely daring move, Wayne visits his obnoxious new buddy, multi millionaire Hugh Panetta and pressures him for a job as "In-House Counsel". Wayne is able to win him over with a very bold move (involving a fake Russian Roulette).
In today's episode we saw how the Malloys tried to settle into their new lives, but the stage was already set for trouble on the horizon ....

read somewhere that this episode was written by someone other than that of the original pilot (which I loved, btw)
some redundant lines, possible unscripted bits, and a few slow moments.
character development:
What bugs most is that the characters of the teens are flat compared to the adults. They seem almost too even/balanced and nonplussed for the kind of lives they have led.
I don't watch any television other than news/pseudo-news (TDS) so this is the highest praise I can give a non-news tv program: Despite being tired, I made a point of staying up to watch the Riches last night.

Well written admin.
OK, this is a little off topic, but why is it that EVERY representation of a homeowner association president in TVs/Movies is an utter jerk? Are they just easy targets or are they actually like that?
Honest curiosity...

I wondered if there'd be some pathetic covenants like some "communities" have... no vehicle older than ten years, must keep garage doors down/closed, that sort of thing.
the by-laws/covenants of my parents "active adult community" prohibits displaying flags! and yes, their creepy governing council, or whatever it's called, is full of facist idiots

I've just added this info at the beginning of each episode thread.
Pilot - Written by: Dmitry Lipkin and Eddie Izzard
Episode 1 - Story by: Dmitry Lipkin & Dawn Prestwich & Nicole Yorkin // Teleplay by: Nicole Yorkin & Dawn Prestwich
Interesting that Eddie is listed as writer for the pilot. I knew that he was an Ex. Producer, but didn't know that he wrote for "The Riches", too.

Great summary, admin.
I liked this episode, thought it was pretty funny. There were some great scenes and I actually LOL at times. What I liked the most about it, is the mix of humor and drama. You're still laughing when they shock you in the next scene, if that makes any sense.
I also liked the acting of Eddie and Minnie even more in this episode, it felt like they were getting into it and finding their place.
Overall though, I liked the pilot better. But I am looking forward to next week's episode. From what I've heard it should make for some good entertainment.

| It was great when Wayne goes back in the kitchen after talking to rhe security gaurd, everyone was hiding, Cael comes out with a golf club, Dahlia's holding a knife. They are still so cautious about the police.

You're right - that was a great scene and very telling, too.

First post here, but could not resist this one- The writers are spot on with the portrayal of homeowners assoc. NO OFFENSE to the ones who are decent, but, if I had known what we were getting into.... I know the INTENT of the rules, but some people go way overboard. Those scenes were hilarious!
