I just downloaded the first seven episodes from iTunes. Excellent quality, well worth the little pittance they charge.

Yesterday I got a DVD burner, expecting to burn my iTunes purchased episodes of The Riches. I should have read the fine print, though. No burning, too much DRM. Have to repurchase, this time as the DVD set when it comes out, if I want to have them on DVD.
I don't know how this is going to work out for the studios and Amazon/Apple. I won't be buying any more episodes, as they've too greatly restricted what I can do with the purchased episodes. I don't know who would, too. But I suppose it costs them little to do this, so even if they snag only the occasional rube, it will get them cash.
Extremely disappointed!

Yes, DRM stops most people without too much technical knowledge right in their tracks.
It is arguable if that is allowed or not (ask the Studios and they say no, ask the Electronic Frontier Foundation and they will say yes), but there are ways around this.
If memory serves right, one of the Arguments for the DMCA is the fair use policy which should give you the right for a personal copy.
Now that said, DRM is actually quite the opposite.
It allows the studios to sell different licenses at different prices (e.g. one time viewing, full burn rights, only burn once ....). Its like going to the movies (they don't allow you to copy it, only watch it). If you want a copy you need to pay extra or buy the full license.
Unfortunately the opinion of the customer doesn't matter much these days.
Although it may not be allowed to copy a music CD, it stands to reason if you are allowed to do it to keep it in your car (cars get too hot in the summer which is bad for CD's and most car stereos don't play copy protected CD's).
If you circumvent copyright in order to distribute it online, well you are just out of your mind. If you want to make a copy for safekeeping, who knows that you did it anyways.
What if you want to listen to the same song in your car, on your iPod and in your home? Do you need to buy the same thing 3 times?
Again, ask the Studios and they would rather charge you a small fee each time you listen to the song (and I am not convinced that this won't happen in the future).

I know, I know, I feel like such a plebe. I'm surrounded by five computers here at home: three Macs, one Linux and one Windows, but no DVD burner between the lot of them ... till now.
I never had much use for DVD burning, but I have been doing a lot of CD based work for years. When my last CD burner finally died a month ago, I decided to switch to DVD for the extra storage capacity, mostly for backups, but also for archiving video and filmstrips.

LOL, these webisodes really are great. You should definitely check them out.
