According to the FX Site it is "Dead Calm". IMDB is the only site that shows it as "Dead Caelm", so it's probably just a typo.

yup, you are right! I swear I checked multiple sources before posting that, but now they all say "Dead Calm" my bad.

It would be a pun, I suppose, to call it "Dead Caelm". Something to underscore the unusual spelling of Cael's name. But if it's a pun, it's a pretty bad one.

Given, then, that the title of the episode is "Dead Calm", what do you suppose it means? Jim is dead, yes, but other than that, the episode was anything but calm.

Nina actually says "Dead Calm" when Jim dies ... I thought it was a play on his name, that is why I didn't think twice about the typo. hmmm the meaning of the name ... all I can think is that for sailors a dead calm is far worse that high seas ... a dead clam leaves you stranded and waiting.

Ah, I missed that.

I like the sailing analogy. Dead calm is bad. Also, "the calm before the storm" and all that. Next week's the season finale. Hopefully we'll get some serious fireworks.

I missed it on the first viewing too ... another thing I noticed on a second viewing is that the PI seems to throw something into the fruit basket in the kitchen ... could be nothing ... or something.

Well, I did notice that they name episodes after movies or TV shows or plays and often also play around with it. Like 'Friday Night Lights' or 'The Last Temptation of...' for example.
In this case, I also missed that Nina said it, but it's perfect for the next to last episode of a season that's supposed to go out with a bang and a cliffhanger.

As for the PI, I thought he was playing around with an apple and simply threw it back in the fruit basket, but I could be wrong. Have to watch it again...

Back to the PI and such...

I had also noticed not once did he once show any credentials or proof that he was in fact a PI. Then you have Riley? Who confronted Wayne after he didn't get the job...He then showed up with Dale @ the bar. It seems other members of the clan are trying to infiltrate Wayne and his families life. I think the PI is fitting this role too. They hint at this, the PI doesn't deal with the police (they're sloppy remember), he doesn't write anything down, and again never shows any credentials. At the bar Riley tells Dale, you've lied to us for the last time (or something to that effect) and you see Dales demeanor change immediately. He becomes frantic. Dale is a pawn. He can't come through, and I believe it's either Riley or a member of their crew (which i believe is run by Quinn) who come to possibly kill dale at the end of the episode.

I'm new to the forum, and just started watching this show 2 days ago, and I've watched all of the episodes until the new one so I sped through it, tell me if i made any mistakes or missed anything!!!

Thanks

I never considered that PI might be a traveler, I was pretty convinced he isn't who he says he is ... interesting and very possible. I am also wondering if the PI might not be part of an FBI Sting on Traveler clans.

I think I was so caught up with the idea of Quinn I never thought about Quinn already having a crew in place in Edenfalls.

Welcome! I am pretty new myself, but I have QUICKLY become a big fan of this forum. The people are nice and they actually like to think about where the show is going with its choices ... it isn't all "Hey! Isn't Eddie Izzard a QUEER?!?" or "how come some poor travelers live in that big house?" like you get on some boards.

Norfolk, Welcome and thanks for confirming that the PI has never shown any credentials. I didn't think he had. Most of the time, if someone in authority tells you something, you pretty much just believe it and do what they say. I guess this extends to someone who claims to be an authority figure. Not that a PI is like a cop or anything, but it's enough to panic both Wayne and Dahlia. They're so busy thinking "Oh s**t, a PI! Be cool..." that they don't even think to ask for ID. Travellers should be more naturally suspicious of characters like that, but as has been mentioned, they're way out of their league with the whole Eden Falls "con".

I never considered that the PI would be associated with Quinn and his buddies. It's possible, I suppose. Dale quickly managed to get himself in over his head by associating himself with Quinn, and probably told Quinn the name of the guy he offed (Pete Mincey), so if Quinn's connected enough, he could send someone out posing as a PI looking for Pete Mincey. The fact that he wasn't at the bar with the others, would seem to indicate that he's not involved, but it could also be misdirection. Honestly, I think he's something else.
