The pilot premiere on Monday (3/12/07) scored strong ratings with 3.8 million viewers total. The encore of the premiere later that night drew an additional 1.35 million viewers.
"The show more than doubled the network's best-ever 10 p.m. Monday delivery", and scored better ratings than the premiere of "Dirt" earlier this year.

| In case you missed it on the front page, FX said today that on average there are 5.9 million that watch the show. That's apparently cumulative ratings; since they show each new episode several times during the week, they simply add all the viewers together.

| Still a pretty decent number. I don't think there is anything wrong with adding the numbers. I never catch the first show since I am at work anyways.

Dahling, where do you get the ratings from, FX itself? Are there any independent ratings that you've found, such as cable-only ratings done by a Nielson-like company?
I too think it's probably okay to simply add the viewers for each repeat into the initial showing. There are probably some folks who watch the repeats for various reasons too, but not enough to really tweak the ratings.

Unfortunately, there is not much out there directly from FX. Some release it, some don't and it seems FX is one of the latter.
This particular news came from the article(s) announcing the renewal. That's what the president and general manager of FX Networks (Landgraf) revealed when he announced the news.
There are other sources out there that publish ratings. Nielsen publishes a cable-only list of the top ten for each week. Others publish the top 15 and I am assuming they also get their info from Nielsen. However, they do not count repeats like FX does.
In any case, like you said in your other post, FX doesn't seem to take part in the ratings race as much as others. And they definitely see the ratings as a success for cable, as they should I think.
If I find out more, I'll definitely post it.

Well, seems like there are bad news on the ratings front. I just found this article at multichannel.com and according to them the season 2 premiere only had 1.5 million viewers (compared to about 4.3 million last year). That's pretty bad.
And even though there will be more once the DVR numbers are added, I'm afraid that it will not be enough. After all, networks look at viewer numbers when they decide whether to renew a show or not.

| oh no, really? That's surprising, it seemed like there was a lot more advertisement outside of FX and talk show plugs this year.

| hmmm I would think that the writers strike delay hit a LOT of shows hard. I hope this doesn't mean no season 3!

Well, ratings across the board have been going downhill for a while now - think DVRs etc. The writers' strike certainly didn't help matters. And I would think that it's especially hard for newer shows that are still looking to find/ establish a core audience. I was hoping that it would help the show that others were still shooting and not showing new episodes. But it doesn't look like it. And now more and more shows are coming back with new stuff to air.
I guess we'll have to wait and see and hope for the best. I know that Dirt isn't doing much better either.
