Virgin Territory - Spoilers

Written by: Wendy Riss
Directed by: Brian Kirk

First aired on FX on April 23, 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Dale calls Dahlia in tears, telling her that his Dad (her uncle) has died. Dale commands her to come back for his funeral, they only have to bring the $40k they stole. Unfortunately they lost the money.
Dahlia stops all clocks in the house, covers the mirrors and family pictures (apparently some sort of Traveller tradition for mourning) and starts to pack up all valuables in order to sell them to raise the money.
Wayne instead takes Cael to break into Hugh's office and steals a lot of money to give the money back to the Traveller clan. Unfortunately Travellers often combine funerals with weddings, putting Di Di in danger for having to marry Ken. Knowing this, Wayne tries to implant the idea of waiting into simple minded Kens head.
When the Malloys arrive at the camp, the welcome for Wayne is especially cold. Nevertheless, he offers a large sum of money to Dale to pay him off once and for all, promising a second payment of equal value when they leave.
After the cremation of Dales dad, Dale offers the sum of $25k to the traveller who ran Doug Rich off the road, to make Wayne Malloy disappear.
Meanwhile Ken and Ginni conspire to get Di Di married once and for all. Unfortunately Ken sides with Ginni and demands to get married.
While Dahlia speaks to Dales Mom, she gets a subtle hint from her that Dale had something to do with his fathers death.
Dahlia takes away Waynes gun and threatens Dale into writing a confession.
Unfotunately this leaves Wayne defenseless when he needs it the most. He is on his way to stop Di Di's marriage when he gets held back at gun point by the Traveller who was paid to make him disappear.
This leaves Di Di all by herself in front of the altar. When asked if she wants to marry Ken she says no, runs away and locks herself in the RV. Ginni breaks into the RV and threatens to disclose Dahlia's parole violation, the identity theft and bring both of Di Di's parents behind bars. The "only" thing she asks, is that Di Di consummates the marriage with Ken.
Wayne does what he does best and keeps talking until he has the Traveller confused. His wife gets upset and struggles for the gun when he accidentally shoots her. Wayne sees the opportunity, grabs the gun and walks away.
Ken finally shows up at Di Di's RV, but vows to protect her and her family at all cost, even if Di Di doesn't love him back in return.
Dahlia fires a few rounds in Dales RV, but she didn't harm him (just scare him a bit). When Dahlia tells Dales mother the whole story, she refuses to believe her story (knowing the truth) and she expels Dahlia from the clan.
The Malloy's finally get to leave.
Dale who got a grip on himself runs across Ken and tries to beat the information on the whereabouts of the Malloy's out of him.

Today's episode has seen a lot of action. The show simply gets better and better and I am starting to enjoy it more and more.
It was very nerve wrecking when Di Di stood in front of the priest and noone of the entire family came to her aid. She had to fight her way out of this all by herself and she did well.

I think this is their best episode to date. The acting was superb, and Minnie is really coming along with the accent now that she's hitting her stride. I think that The Riches is the most unusual show on television, and it's just so enthralling to watch. Now my wife and I have our sister in law hooked on the show. We hope there's another marathon coming so she can catch up quickly.

We can't wait to see how Wayne handles the missing money, and how Dale and Ginny are going to make their buffer life nothing but trouble from here on out.

One question I have: Wayne gave Dale half the money he stole up front, the rest to come when they left camp and headed back to Eden Falls. I never saw Wayne pay the rest of the cash to Dale. So does this mean that the camp bank is still owed $20,000? Or should we assume that he left the other half with Dale after Dahlia scared him by firing off a few rounds?

Do any of you think Dale will get their address from Ken or will he keep his promise to DiDi? He was taking a pretty good beating at the end there. I wonder if he will holed out.

Mad I knew that Ginnie was going to be trouble! Excellent episode, again, I have said it- I love Minnie's voice! The covering of the clocks, is an old Southern, I think African American tradition.I have seen it done in the film- Fried Green Tomatoes and heard about it as well.

OMG- Minnie with the gun on Dale- no wonder she loves her character!
In my Hank Hill voice- Gosh Darnit that episode was simply great! Seriously- FX better keep this show going!

Re: The Clock at Earl's time of death...

I did a little bit of google search. Apparently, in Victorian Times, they stopped the clock at the time of death and covered the mirrors- to ward off bad omens. They also believed in taking the body out feet first.

Good find, Charlene. Thanks!

John, I've got a feeling that Ken will fold like a paper napkin under Dale's beating. He'll hold out for a bit, but he's known now to change his mind if it suits his immediate needs (like he changed his mind about marrying DiDi).

Ken will most likely fold! Death or tell Dale where they are? What would you choose? He promised to protect the Malloy's from Ginny, no one else! Anyone else think that DiDi seemed to "fall" for Ken a little bit after he told her he would protect her? Going back was bound to make a good episode but never did I expect it to be this good, it had the suspense of a season finale yet we still have several more episodes! I liked how the Malloy/Rich family banded together without even realizing it to fight for their life in Eden Falls. Which poses the question, do they enjoy their life as buffers or just like the con?

Also, according to the previews it looks like Wayne is recruiting some buffers to come help him pull off some major corporate scam. Is this the beginning of Wayne taking over as the new head traveler and utilizing their talents in a way never even imagined? Now you can really start to see why Dale's dad wanted Wayne to take over!

I think Wayne still owns the money. On the other hand, it wasn't exactly clear how much the first payment was. It may very well have been more then $20,000 and that he promised Dale more then the total sum owned to get him off his back.

True. She has an excellent voice. I was quite surprised when I heard her singing at the funeral how good it was.
I think she has also some CD's out, but I never took her too serious until now. It may be worth checking it out.

I doubt it. I think Ken loves Di Di and he knows that Dale is bad news for them. I think he will keep his mouth shut and he will be beaten senseless, but I don't see Dale killing him either

Not at all. She was touched by the unsuspected move but I didn't see that she fell for him.

And yet again, Di Di had to find her own way out of trouble. Everyone was tied up somehow while Wayne had promised to prevent the marriage.

They looked like Travellers to me Confused

Yep, Wayne defenitely is smarter then Dale, no question. He is also a much nicer person and he doesn't have the anger management problems Dale has.

This episode is my favorite so far, since the pilot. I don't knbow why, I have a thing for the camp episodes. I love Ken, he is so tragic. It was very sweet of him to let them go the way he did for Didi. I think he will rather let Dale Kill him than rat out the Malloys, especialy Didi.
btw, the scene with Cal's friend and Dahlia was freakin great.

Couldn't agree more with you. This episode had it all: suspense, drama, comedy, and action.

I went into the episode with mixed feelings as I knew from the previews that it would be set (at least mainly) at the travellers' camp. I've gotten used to seeing them trying to handle their new life and so I wasn't sure whether I would like seeing them back at the camp. At the same time, I knew that drama would be had if they returned and I was not disappointed.

I especially liked Dahlia's and Di Di's scenes.
Minnie Driver was excellent and I enjoyed and believed every bit of her performance.
I also really liked what Shannon showed us and how she conveyed the frustration and fear that Di Di must have felt.

I thought the scene with Ken and Di Di in the RV was very sweet. It was as if Ken not even once considered that Di Di might actually not love him. Once he realized that, it was as if a switch was flipped and he completely turned around. Even though he knew that he would receive nothing in return, he promised that he would protect Di Di, which showed how much he really cares about her. Anyway, I just thought that it was an especially sweet and innocent scene. Embarassed

I was wondering about that, too, and my guess is that he did not leave the rest of the money. They might want to leave it up to the imagination of the viewer and then (unexpectedly) bring it back at a later time. But who knows?!

I am actually torn on this one. I think that he will at least try not to tell on them. But there comes a certain point, especially with Dale, where it's life or death. And who could blame him in that case...

Thanks for finding out about this. I suspected that it was some kind of traveller tradition, but I never would have guessed that it goes this far back. Cool
