If you are posting in a thread, make sure you stay on topic.
If your discussion is off topic, feel free to start a new thread in the appropriate folder.
Whether a discussion is off topic is subject to the judgment of the moderators. In that case, moderators may move your discussion to a different thread.

Not to be so presumptuous as to tell you how to run your own house, Admin, but I think that conversations just sometimes naturally take a curve or two as they run, and even though the results of that careening a bit off-course might seem off-topic, it's really not. It's just the way conversations evolve sometimes, just like in real life.
So can there be any leeway in this particular rule, such as subject to the judgment of the mods that it's okay the way it's evolving?
Otherwise, I'd have had to start another thread in a Battlestar Galactica thread just to make a point by using Firefly/Serenity. But it's still all the same thing. Which would have made the point seem, well, pointless.

No problem. Consider them to be guidelines rather then strict rules. I won't break up a meaningful conversation, but sometimes a discussion might run away and it may make more sense to split it up into a separate thread.
So far we didn't have any real trouble in that regard and usually if a conversation drifts off, it does come back to the topic fairly quickly.
Our intention is to make information easily accessible and enable visitors to find what they are looking for quickly. In that respect we will try to keep a little bit of order. Don't worry about it too much, I won't break up conversations or hassle people unnecessary.
Hope this helps to dispel your concern.
Please consider it your house too. I always appreciate feedback and I am always listening. I want to make this board enjoyable for everyone.
