Dahlia is the Mother of our dynamic Family. She lives for her 3 children and her hubby (Wayne). She is a very strong character who has just been released from prison.
Unfortunately she has a heroin addiction which she is trying to hide from her family.
Dahlia is also the voice of reason in the family.

Well, in one scene she was pulling the syringe from a spoon (I think). It wasn't exactly mentioned, but it did look a lot like Heroin. Then again, I am not a drug expert

That's the impression I got as well. Either way, she definitely has a drug problem.

Okay, I just read an article at femalefirst.co.uk in which Minnie Driver is referring to a methamphetamine addiction. I guess, that's the one then.

That doesn't mean she can tell the difference
But it actually fits much better, since meth is much cheaper and probably easier to obtain for certain people. It is also one of the most destructive drugs and might explain why they made her look so worn down when she got out of prison.
Thanks for your coverage Dahling.

My pleasure!

Interesting you should mention this, as Minnie talked about that issue in the article as well :
| Quote: | | She tells the New York Daily News, "It was hard-core. I wanted to look ugly and frightening, exactly like you would if you were addicted to methamphetamine and you were just getting out of jail. |

Thanks for finding out, Dahling. That's actually what I thought it might be. Though when the question was posted, I became unsure.

I think it was episode 4 "Reckless Gardening" when Dahlia is with Hugh at Panco.
She grabbed him by the short hairs and DEMANDED to know just how he quit his past addiction.
Hugh's squirming wasn't any help. And that made me wonder about Dahlia.
It's common knowledge that the first step to quitting is to admit that you have an addiction.
Dahlia is already way past that first step. She just doesn't know it.
Her next step will be if she accepts that there are powers greater than she is. That'll be difficult.
Dahlia is so "in control" that she has no fear ever of "waking up without a soul."
Has superstition replaced religion? I can't wait to see this family trying to be Jewish.

| I think Dahlia has come a long way in quitting her addictions. Most people would not be able to get this far.

I don't know about anyone else but I think the meth problem in jail was a bit unrealistic... i realize there are a lot of meth users but c'mon, who the H wants to stay awake all that time and "skitz" in jail??? i would totally be a heroine user, sleep your sentence away!
PS Drug problems are in no way a joke. thanks!

It's the druggie mentality. Any buzz is a good buzz. So you're in prison, which sucks. But if you have a chance to be high while in prison, you probably go for it, just because it's escapism.
Now, I think your point is that being on meth would make prison seem even worse, and that's definitely a valid point. I've never done meth or heroin, or been to prison for that matter, so I have no idea. But I still think folks who do any kind of drug would just do it anyway, given the chance.

| Dahlia is the leader of this family, and she tries so hard to be good, it just makes me love her more. You can see her desire to go straight, give up drugs, and be there for her family, even if she is not always successful. Minnie Driver is wonderful in this part. They just have to bring this show back for Season 3, it's wonderfully different from the other crap on TV.
