The Last Temptation Of Wayne - Spoilers

Written by: Dmitry Lipkin
Directed by: Guy Ferland

First aired on FX on March 18, 2008
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The new season starts right where the last season ended.
Dale walked into Pete and since Pete threatened to get the police involved, to find his friends Doug and Cherien Rich, Dale assaults Pete to silence him. Dale still plans to blackmail Wayne and wants his share of the deal, so he cannot have Pete put this in jeopardy.
After they discover that Dale stole the distributor cap of the RV, Sam tries to run away. The Malloys find out that Sam had the $40k they were missing and he admits that he wanted to bribe Pete in order to reclaim their old life.
With the RV unusable, Wayne and Dahlia head back for the house to get the Benz. Suddenly Wayne surprises Dahlia with his idea to stay back and talk to Pete. Dahlia objects, but has no choice but to leave Wayne behind.
Wayne searches the house and only finds Dale. After a while, he discovers Pete in the trunk of his Mustang. Pete appears to be dead and Dale seems to be genuinely surprised about it. While Wayne backs up the Mustang, he runs over Hugh who showed up unannounced and knocks him unconscious. Wayne carries Hugh into the House and tries to revive him, when a security guard shows up, since Hugh parked his car on Wayne’s lawn.
As Wayne is talking to the officer, Hugh and Dale play with Hugh’s gun and fire a few rounds into Doug’s furniture. The security guard runs into the house where a drunk Hugh and Dale confront him. Naturally, it is in Dale’s nature to pull the gun on the officer, seeking a fast solution.
Wayne is able to talk Dale into submission by offering him 50% of his “stake” and to convince the Guard not to press charges by reminding him of his trespassing and of Hugh’s owner status.
After the officer left, Hugh spills the beans on a new deal for his real estate company, promising a $150 Million pay-off. Wayne’s share of the deal will be $13M. This gets Wayne and Dale excited about the opportunity and Hugh flying high on his newfound wealth. Hugh does not even appear to be too much worried about his wife’s rejection anymore.
Meanwhile, Dahlia's been loading the Benz and is just about ready to leave. Suddenly Nina is showing up and Dahlia swerves to avoid her hitting a tree and rupturing the coolant pipe. Nina wants to join them on their adventure. She has left her life behind and is ready to hit the road with the Malloys. Since Dahlia really loves Nina, she simply takes Nina with them.
Nina is knocking back a few shots of booze and then passes the bottle to the rear seats. Grandma takes it and drinks too much without anyone noticing. After the inevitable car breakdown, Dahlia, Nina, Grandma, and the kids are showing up in a small Texas town. Grandma is very weak, so Dahlia takes her to the hospital.
The doctor finds out that Grandma has been drinking and has arrhythmia because of it. Since DiDi finds out that the credit cards are locked, they cannot pay the doctor and resort to stealing medicine and leaving in a hurry.
While Cael is trying to steal a new ride, the gang suddenly gets held at gun point by the owner of the car (yes, we are in Texas).

The Last Temptation of Wayne was quite a short episode. But it was also intense.

I really loved the way they picked up the action in this episode. The show really picked up speed and things are happening fast.
Eddie Izzard is brilliant again. He really shines in this role.
I was also very surprised by Nina's decicion to follow them on the run. I almost wish they kept running to see how this would play out, but from the previews it looks different Wink

I wonder who was calling Dale and who he was on the phone with before getting into the car with Wayne? Maybe Ginni

Wow, what an intense ride this was tonight. Things were happening so fast, my head is still spinning. Probably one of the reasons why the episode seemed so short, which it really wasn't (esp. considering the short comm. breaks). But I loved every minute of it. To be honest, I wasn't quite sure whether it would still feel right after such a long break, but they just pulled me right back into the whole mess.

I actually just watched it again and there were so many little jokes and plays that I had missed the first time around. Glad to see that all the actors picked right up where they had left off; I was again especially impressed by Minnie and Eddie.
Can't wait to see how everything plays out -- although from the look of things, it probably will get worse before it gets better.

Oh, and welcome to the forum, jpack!

Great episode, I'd been anticipating this so long it was wierd. It's strange that this was all going on the same night as the season 1 finale, like time had been suspended for a year. btw, holy crap, Sam had the money that whole time!? I was not expecting that.

Yeah I was wondering who was on the phone with him to, I thought about Ginny, but I don't really see what she has to gain from them anymore.

Good question, Janet. Ginny is a good guess, I think. What about Kenny? We don't even know what Dale did to him, so it could be possible that they are in contact for some reason. Or what about the neighbor lady, Hartley Underwood? Dale was at her house for some time before showing up at Doug's house.

Anybody else have any ideas? So far we have:
- Ginny
- Kenny
- Hartley Underwood

Great episode, so much going on. I never would have thought that Sam actually found and kept the money "for a rainy day". And everything so far wasn't "rainy enough" for him, LOL. Gotta love it.

Who was Dale talking to? Hmm, what about the guy they showed in the preview, the one in prison? Don't know who he is or how he fits in, but who knows...

So, we have
- Ginny
- Kenny
- Hartley Underwood
- Prison Guy

P.S. Welcome jpack.

They sure came out of the gate swingin' last night! What a fast-paced opener!

I, for one, will be interested to see what happens to/with Nina when they return to Eden Falls. She's not necessarily a major character, but a fun one, nonetheless!

Oh, and isn't it interesting how politics are woven into this season? Rolling Eyes or not.

Well, technically, you didn't "miss" anything. But in the previews for the season, it seems "Wayne" convinces Hugh that he must run for political office. I could be mistaken, but it was my impression that it's a move designed to help seal the $150million dollar deal they're trying to put together ?? Did anyone else catch this... or did I just concoct a figment of my own imagination? Wink

Unfortunately I missed the first 9 minutes and could only record from then on. Like everyone said, I agree with that they started out exactly where they had left off in the last seasons finale, and was very pleased with the accuracy of how they did it.

I was pretty sure that Dale would be in the next season maybe halfway through. From the seasons preview it looks like he will be. I'm sure Wayne could have, instead of 50/50 with Dale, said 25/75 and still gotten away with it, but I'm assuming he just wanted to resolve the conflict at hand and worry about it later.

As for the mysterious "unknown caller" to Dale's cell phone, twice, my best guess on who it could be are these two:

1) Prison Guy (probably a traveler who was caught on something, like Dahlia, closely related to Dale in the family. Maybe an uncle or cousin.

2) Huntley (sp?) I'm sure she would like a better life other than being a gold digger, and she said Dale was "cute" in a previous episode, so the lust factor is added there. Although she stated she wouldn't like to harm anyone, but I think money is her main priority, and I think her and Dale would be a good team, with her past record of stealing and all.

I don't think it's Ginny or her brother, forgot his name, as I'm pretty sure Dale regards them as non-essential to his plans. Plus he was excommunicated from the family, and all families gossip so word could, mostly likely would, spread very quick on how much money Dale would soon make.

With Cherene's mother, I'm thinking they would most likely send her back to the nursing home or do something else with her. She's extra baggage and I wouldn't know personally, but based on the show, If I was a traveler I wouldn't want any extra baggage in my lifestyle.

As for the seasons previews... It's gonna be a great ride and I hope it will get a bigger audience. The family moves back in to Eden Falls, Wayne gets the 13mil bonus, Dahlia throws money off the second floor with a new haircut. No idea, I can only hope it will get better and better with every episode.

Thanks for reading Cool

PS: S2E02 synopsis coming on Sunday, March 22nd, for those who haven't read it yet.

Well, I remember seeing Hugh with a campaign poster of some sort so I got the impression that he was running for some kind of office. I didn't catch the connection to the suburb deal they are working on. It would make sense, however, money and (political) power seem to go hand in hand quite often...

You weren't imagining things, Wayne wants him to run for mayor. And from what I saw of the previews, it looks as though he does.
