Reckless Gardening - Spoilers
Written by: Ellen Herman
Directed by: Guy Ferland
First aired on FX on April 16, 2007
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this Episode Ken gets the family into trouble many times over, Wayne is brilliant as an attorney (Doug) and Di Di gets into a lot of trouble ...
The Episode starts out where the last episode left off - with Ken being part of the Family now. As we learn Wayne has signed a document accepting Ken as his Son in Law and his apprentice in exchange for Ginnie's silence.
Wayne is ticked off, since he also has to take the mentally challenged boy to work as his apprentice. Dahlia also has set her mind on getting a job at Panco while Doug (Wayne) is negotiating a big lawsuit.
A lady got her arm ripped out by an alligator, since Hugh couldn't resist building on alligator land.
He puts Wayne under pressure not to settle and somehow Wayne manages to dig out the ladie's history, putting her under pressure.
Meanwhile Ken messed up at the office and gets sent home by Wayne.
Here Ken finds Di Di has forgotten her lunch and decides to surprise his fiancee at school, completely embarrassing her. They finally manage to pass him as a little challenged and send him back home, when one of Cael's friends slips Ken marijuana that he needs to dispose as the school is being raided by the Police.
Dahlia finds out in time and manages to steal the dope back from Ken, well knowing he would blow their cover if caught. Unfortunately she cannot escape the police anymore and gets arrested for possession of drugs.
This means big trouble, since this might blow the cover of the family.
Dahlia somehow managed to blackmail Hugh, since he made sexual advances towards her. In return, he blackmails her, since he found out about her continued addiction to drugs. They part with Hugh giving Dahlia a sizable sum to get her started on her new job.
While Wayne (Doug) and Hugh are celebrating at the country club (and are getting wasted on J.D.), Dahlia went splurging and bought several dresses.
Meanwhile Cael is desperately trying to reach his parents and tell them about Di Di's arrest and the fact that the Police took her fingerprints.
Wayne, who has put Ken in trunk of his car, arrives at the Police first (drunk) and tries to sweet talk the cop with Lawyer talk. Obviously she (police women) is not impressed with Wayne. It isn't until Dahlia arrives and sovereignly takes over the situation that things calm down. She is able to convince the cop with a sizable donation to the "Police Charity Fund" to keep the charges off Di Di's permanent record (and thus saves the family cover from being blown).
Wayne finds out that Ken got away, when an unknown elderly lady gives a perfect description of Ken as the perpetrator who robbed her right in front of the police station.
Dale never got over the fact that his father (Dahlia's uncle) chose Wayne as the leader of the clan and his follower. He sneaks into his sick father's room and carries him out of bed (making it look as if he got up all by himself). He leaves him out in the cold night, presumably for him to die in the cold...

When Dahlia was in Hugh's office- Demanding to know how he did it- I do not think I have ever seen a scene where someone is ready to beat the tar out of someone to get the secret of getting OFF drugs! Also, when Minnie was singing to D. - I almost started crying- I forgot Minnie Driver released a CD. Great voice. Dale and that group were very effective , I still do not understand how Dwayne/Doug came from that gene pool, but I did see many books in the RV- he is self taught man? I showed the pilot to a friend and they could not believe how good it is!

I thought this one was ok, it was to the high standard of the previous episodes, but I felt this one was the worst episode so far, insofar as to say even though it is the worst, it is still better than the average episode of this season of 24 which I have lost interest in.
I was frustrated by the lack of development of the son's character and I simply am not buying the 22 year old actress as a 15 year old. Driver is one hot clothes horse though/

| I think the episodes are getting better as they go, but cant help to be annoyed at the way they end each one. It seems the further they get in episodes, the worse the ending leaves you feeling the need to see more. But im sure thats how they keep you watching. Its the first show in a while I've actually liked.

I have seen this with almost every new show and it makes a lot of sense. Somehow they need to get the audience involved and excited about the next episode.
Its easy for older shows that have a very strong fan base but for a relatively new show that is still acquiring viewers it seems to be paramount to do this.
But I completely agree with you. The way this Episode ended, makes me really look forward to the next Episode. I can hardly wait.

absolutely. and im kind of glad they've done that now. the first episode kind of left you thinking 'eh, i dont know about this show' but they made the endingds more obscure where now its like 'dang it! i cant wait to see it next week!' great show

The worst part though is when they do this kind of thing at the end of a season. Most shows split a story in half right at the end of a season to make sure you will come back next season

yep, and i have a feeling this will be one of those shows. I watched Big Love on HBO last year and it ended like that. and I am actually still waiting to see if they're going to do a second season.

I agree, I also can't wait to see what's going to happen next. It does seem to be a very popular way to keep people watching and it does make sense. And I don't mind it all that much. However, as Steve mentioned, when they do it with season finales, it's a completely different story. I see the point and I can deal with it if I know a show is coming back and the break between seasons isn't all that long. But if there is a long break, like say 6 months or longer, it is kind of annoying.

See, now that's just terrible.

See, that's what I like about this show. They take a "common" issue and put their own spin on it, make it totally twisted. Another example is the scene where Dahlia puts store-bought cookies in the microwave to make them appear freshly baked in the hopes that she can score some pills from the neighbor lady. That totally cracked me up. I mean, who has ever heard of a drug addict "baking cookies" to get drugs.

Dunno. I guess they do a lot of things for the next fix. Baking cookies is probably one of the easiest
