It's A Wonderful Lie - Spoilers

Written by: Dawn Prestwich, Lydia Woodward, Nicole Yorkin
Directed by: Peter O'Fallon

First aired on FX on May 28, 2007
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hugh came back from his spirit trip and as it turns out he also found time to go to Las Vegas and marry Gi Gi, a naive but educated dancer who could easily be his daughter. He forgot to draft a prenuptial agreement and puts Wayne to work on it.
He also leaves it to Wayne to make Gi Gi sign the papers, before they have their official wedding reception. Obviously Gi Gi feels betrayed by the thought of signing a post-nuptial agreement and is hesitant to sign the papers. It takes some convincing from Dahlia, who gives Gi Gi ideas of some clauses of her own that should be part of such an agreement (basically restricting Hugh's freedoms or else he pays).
The reception is a big success until Hartley Underwood shows up with Dale Malloy and introduces him as her friend. Wayne and Dahlia are obviously shocked by Dale's presence and scramble for home. Dahlia doesn't want to lie to all her friends (Nina) anymore and wants to move on. As usual, Wayne overrules all votes and decides to wait for Dale's first move.

When Wayne and Dahlia get to work at Panco, they receive a fateful call from Cael. Pete has emailed his best buddy Doug Rich and wants to visit. To turn him off, they make up another sickness, but this time Pete won't be fooled and decides to visit Doug anyway. Wayne invents another identity for his family in order to make him believe that the Riches never lived at the house and to finally turn him away.
Pete is completely in shock by his best friend lying to him about his whereabouts. He decides to call Doug's ex wife. Cael manages to slip him the wrong phone number and when Pete calls believing to talk to Doug's ex-wife, he actually is talking to Dahlia in the other room. She reinforces the notion of Doug abandoning his best friend.
Pete is in shock and so he doesn't realize the old lady (Cherien's mother) who claims to know him.
It turns out that Pete has a lot of psychological issues. He immediately needs to see a shrink, so Wayne poses as a shrink and tells him to put Doug out of his mind.
During the course of the show the Malloys prevent Pete from killing himself. Pete got so depressed about his best friend leaving and lying to him that he decided to end his life. Fortunately, Dahlia is able to convince him to give life another chance by telling him how she once tried to kill herself, but was interrupted and ended up getting better each day (another glimpse at Dahlia's past).
The next day, instead of going to the airport and leaving, Pete wishes to thank Wayne and Dahlia for their help. This is where he comes across Jim (the homosexual neighbor) who blows their cover by telling Pete that the Riches are indeed his neighbors.
The episode ends with Pete in Doug's office, asking for an explanation and the whereabouts of his friend.

The first half was okay, just another "uh-oh, there's someone here, let's do our stuff and get rid of them" type of thing. I liked how Dahlia really hated what she said to Pete, everything seems to be going to hell, and she can't lie to people anymore.
The Party was when the episode got good though. Between Nina confronting Dahlia, and them seeing Dale, it was pretty nuts.
I really like their family meetings in the kitchen, they havn't done that in a while.

It was a pretty good episode. I am especially anxious to see what will happen in the season finale. They definitely set the stage for a grand finale with the Malloys getting under fire from 3 sides (Dale, Pete, Nina).
That Pete guy was pretty pathetic while he was down, but once he got the upper hand (at the end) he was like a whole different person.
I don't like his character, but it would be interesting to find out what will happen and how (and if) he can be silenced.
Nina seemed to be very upset about being lied to from her best friend, which is understandable. She is probably being very sensitive after being lied to by her husband for such a long time.
I wonder what would happen if they decided to hell her the truth. Dahlia sure seems to want to tell her, but I am not sure thats such a good idea.
She might change her mind about them if she finds out the truth (that the Malloys are not like them - the residents of Edenfalls).

Last night's episode was good. Didn't care too much for the Hugh/Gigi story and Dale and Hartley Underwood just creep me out.

I thought it was funny to see Wayne pretending to be a "shrink". Actually, it would have been much more believable for me had they picked this profession for Doug Rich, rather than an attorney. Cool

I was very moved by Dahlia when she tried to stop Pete from killing himself (great acting by Minnie). I liked that saving him was more important to her than protecting their buffer life.

Also, liked the scenes between Dahlia and Nina. I could tell how much Dahlia wanted to tell her the truth, what an inner struggle.

And boy, did the episode pick up momentum during the final minutes. Great set up, can't wait to see the finale. I am guessing there will be many unanswered questions when the season is over...
