Thursday - February 7, 2008 Only Seven Episodes for "The Riches" the Second Time Around Back in December, John Landgraf, president of FX Networks, hinted at the possibility of airing half-seasons of "The Riches" and "Dirt" due to the writers' strike in Hollywood. Today it was made reality: FX opted not to produce more episodes for the second seasons of "The Riches" and "Dirt" and will instead air shorter seasons consisting of only seven episodes. According to Reuters and The Hollywood Reporter, the decision was based on "...economic reasons and does not affect the ... chances for third-season renewal." Since episode seven was written as a mid-season episode rather than a season finale, an abrupt end to the storylines is a possibility. However, when asked by Movieweb.Com earlier this year whether the seventh episode could work as a season finale, Eddie Izzard stated that it wasn't quite like a finale, "...but it does end with a cliffhanger, with a massive problem." The launch date for "The Riches" second season will be announced next week. Stay tuned for more news and discuss this and more in our forum. Sources: Reuters, The Hollywood Reporter, Movieweb.Com |

The Riches centers on an American family, but not your average family, to be sure. When we meet the Malloy family for the first time, the father and three children are doing what they do best - con others - while the mother is due to be released from prison. So far, the Malloy's have spent their lives as gypsies amongst their extensive travelers clan. However, this soon changes when the family is forced to leave the clan behind. They take off in their RV, but not without cleaning out the clan's cash stash. Now, unsure where to go and what the future holds, the Malloys are struck by yet another misfortune when they are involved in a car accident. The father, however, is not one to give up so easily. He has the 'brilliant' idea of taking on the identities of the Riches, the couple killed in the car accident. The Malloys head to the house recently purchased by the Riches and take up residence. The beginning of a new chapter… The Malloy Family Wayne Malloy (Eddie Izzard) – The father: He is in the middle of a midlife crisis caused when his wife was sent to prison. He sees an opportunity in the car accident to finally settle into a ‘normal’ life and live the American Dream. Dahlia Malloy (Minnie Driver) – The mother: While she spent two years in prison, she developed a serious drug habit, which she is now trying to hide from her family. She also has a difficult time leaving the family clan behind and questions Wayne’s decision to take on the Riches’ identities. Di Di Malloy (Shannon Marie Woodward) – The only daughter: Di Di is a typical teenager, sarcastic and struggling to find her place in life. Having spent two of her teenage years without her mother, she seems unsure about her place in the family. When it temporarily appears that the family will split up, Di Di chooses to stay with her father. Cael Malloy (Noel Fisher) – The eldest son: Being the oldest of the Malloy children, Cael learned to take care of his family while his mother was in prison. He appears to be more protective and supportive of his mother. Cael also is the one struggling the most with giving up their traveler lifestyle, feeling out of place when the family moves into the Riches’ house. Sam Malloy (Aidan Mitchell) – The youngest son: Sam is the baby of the family and had a hard time living without his mom for two years. Now, that his mom is back home, he is very attached to her. He also loves to wear his sister’s old dresses, causing the neighbors to think that the Malloys have two girls.
